Be Vegan within a month
  • Day 2: Dead Animals Aren’t the Only Source of Protein: Plant-based Protein Sources.
  • Daily Nugget: While you go about your day today, 90,000 cows and calves will be slaughtered, according to the Center for Food Safety.

Your mom, your boyfriend, the woman you met five minutes ago in the check-out line, they all have the same question, “Vegan? Oh, how do you possibly get enough protein?!” There’s no getting around this one.

Today, let’s take a minute to discuss the protein conundrum in this county. In short, most westerners get waaaay too much of it. Americans generally get about twice as much protein as we need, which can actually cause kidney and liver problems.

Don’t stress (over)eating the same amount of protein as you used to; chances are you were going overboard. For more on the protein myth, check out this explanation from Dr. Reed Mangels.

You don’t have to go cold tofurky on the meat in week one, but try cutting it out of at least two of your three meals. Normally only have it with one meal a day? Cut it down to once every other day. By the end of the month, it’ll be out. Or cut it out completely today – we (obviously) won’t judge!!
